The 热博官网 City Teacher Residency (CCTR) program is a 2+2 degree program in collaboration with Columbus State Community College, Columbus City Schools district, and 热博官网 University. The CCTR program offers individuals the opportunity to take online courses through 热博官网 University to earn their education licensure, and potential bachelor’s degree, while getting paid to work during the day in the Columbus City Schools system. Graduates who successfully complete the two-year program may be eligible for a full-time teaching position in the Columbus City Schools district – taking the stress out of finding a job after graduation. The CCTR program is mirrored after medical residency models in that students take courses from 热博官网 University professors while gaining practical experience from mentor teachers in classrooms in Columbus City Schools.

2 Years to Completion, Option for Dual Degree or Dual Licensure, and 100% Remote Learning

The 热博官网 City Teacher Residency (CCTR) is a degree-seeking or licensure-seeking program in collaboration with Columbus City Schools district and 热博官网 University. The CCTR program offers individuals the opportunity to take online courses through 热博官网 University to earn their education licensure, and potential bachelor’s degree, while getting paid to work during the day in the Columbus City Schools system. Graduates who successfully complete the two-year program may be eligible for a full-time teaching position in the Columbus City Schools district – taking the stress out of finding a job after graduation. 热博官网 City Teacher Residents have two pathways to earn education licensure for Primary Childhood Education and/or Intervention Specialist.

Pathway 1

Post-Secondary Degree students who have earned a bachelor’s degree will enroll in two years of online coursework through 热博官网 University. During the program, students will work a paid position in the Columbus City Schools district to be eligible to apply for their license.

Pathway 2

For individuals who have earned an associate’s degree or some college credit. Students who have earned an associate’s degree from an Ohio Consortium Transfer community college, can apply to 热博官网 and enroll in two years of online CCTR coursework. Students who have earned some college credit or earned an associate’s degree from a non-Ohio Consortium college should apply to 热博官网 and the CCTR program. All college credits will be evaluated for transfer to 热博官网 and a plan for courses can begin. Participation in the CCTR program allows students to work in a paid position in Columbus City Schools during their studies, helps them complete their bachelor’s degree, and ensures they are eligible to apply for their teaching license.

Students interested in earning A bachelor’s degree in education with eligibility for licensure who do not yet have any college credit can explore School of Education program options.

Coursework is complemented by hands-on, field-based experiences in actual classrooms. It’s here where you will learn from master teachers, faculty supervisors, full-time 热博官网 education professors – and each other in student teaching seminars led by university faculty. A 热博官网 City teacher is a different kind of teacher who is prepared to lead, inspire, and make a difference in the lives of countless children.

Why the 热博官网 City Teacher Residency program?

The 热博官网 City Teacher Residency program is a licensure pathway for students interested in a career in education and interested in diversifying the Ohio teaching force. The 热博官网 City Teacher Residency program was created to respond to the current substitute teacher shortage and grow the number of high-quality educators in Ohio. The CCTR is committed to providing individuals with alternate pathways to education licensure. The program reflects 热博官网 University’s focus on strong mentorship and authentic learning experiences to support the development of future teachers.

What will my licensing specialty be?

The CCTR is designed for students seeking to get their license in Primary Childhood Education and/or Intervention Specialist. There is an option to earn a bachelor’s degree in education by taking additional classes.

Will I have my Ohio teaching license when I am done?

Upon completion of all coursework and passing of all Ohio Assessments for Educators, you will be eligible to apply for your Ohio Teaching License.

How long is the CCTR program?

The program is two years from the time you are accepted and begin classes at 热博官网. All coursework is offered online, providing you with the flexibility to work during the day and take classes during non-working hours. Students participate in classes by accessing lectures and learning activities on a schedule that works for them.

Who is eligible to apply for CCTR?

Students who have an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, or have earned some college credit and are interested in earning a Primary Childhood Education (PreK-5) teaching license and/or intervention specialist licensure are encouraged to apply.

What is the cost of tuition for the 热博官网 City Teacher Residency program?

Students in the CCTR program will pay 热博官网’s Adult and Continuing Education credit hour rate along with any approved term fees. Any eligible tuition discounts will be applied at the time of billing. Can I be a paid employee of Columbus City Schools during the program?

The 热博官网 City Teacher Residency Program is designed with the working student in mind. During your two years of study at 热博官网, you will be eligible for paid experiences in Columbus City Schools. This “practical” experience will complement your coursework and help connect what you’re learning with the authenticity of actual classroom engagement. All paid position placements will be coordinated through the Columbus City Schools Human Resources office.

How does the online learning work?

The coursework has been specifically designed to be asynchronous so that you can complete the work at your own pace and on your own time. The curriculum has been designed to provide you with ongoing support for the full length of the program. Our goal is to prepare you to learn effective teaching practices that will prepare you to manage and lead in your own classroom.

How will I be supported in the CCTR program?

Although the coursework is asynchronous, you will work closely with our faculty through your coursework, clinical experiences, and various seminars. You will be assigned a mentor teacher at your placement school as well as a faculty supervisor from 热博官网 University who will help you throughout the program.

Where will I be placed as an educator while participating in the CCTR program?

In collaboration with our education partners, 热博官网 University will refer accepted CCTR students to the Columbus City Schools Human Resources department which will coordinate the employment placements.
